Association 'Victims of Kosmet' (New Belgrade)
The families of the first kidnapped Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, who were abducted from their homes or from their job posts in Belacevac, Retimlje, Retina, Orahovac, Prizren and other places in May and June 1998 joined together and got organized, and set up the Association of the Families of the Kidnapped and Murdered, so that we have been active since 1998.
We wanted to join together in one place not only the kidnapped civilians, but also all of the victims, including kidnapped and murdered soldiers and policemen, and we therefore set up an association entitled “The Association of the Families of the Kidnapped and Murdered in Kosovo and Metohija.” The Association was formally registered in July 2003, thus encompassing for the first time all of the victims of the Albanian terror in one place. The seat of the Association is in Belgrade and there are also hard-working offices in Prokuplje, Strbac and Sutomore (for Montenegro ).
One of the ten founders who was trusted with the responsibility by the families of the kidnapped and murdered victims and delegated with the distressing, but honourable work of searching for the abducted and trying to keep from oblivion the thousands of victims of the Albanian terror is the President of the Association Simo Spasic.
Since the foundation of the Association to the present days, we have organized and held hundreds of protests in the streets and squares of Belgrade and in the towns all over Serbia, in front of the embassies, state institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations. We have met with domestic and foreign officials of the highest ranks, we have written notes and reactions, and have sent them all over the world only with one goal – to finally speak aloud of the horrible anguishes and suffering of Serbs and other non-Albanians from Kosovo and Metohija, and to have the ill-fated destiny of the kidnapped and abducted family finally resolved. For, we are witnesses of a sad and unacceptable truth that even after ten years since the first kidnappings of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, the families of more than five hundred of our fatalities still do not have any data about their destiny. All of us whose relatives have been kidnapped would, of course, love for them to be alive. But, if they are not, we have been asking and we will keep on asking to have their earthly remains returned to us in order to bury them with dignity in accordance with our customs.
In its further activities, the Association will use all legal means to publicly speak about the perishing of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, to insist on the revealing of the truth on the kidnapped and murdered persons during the pre-war, war and post-war periods, all of this with a hope that the victims of the Albanian terror will never be forgotten.
Over 2500 Serbs and non-Albanians have been kidnapped and murdered in Kosovo and Metohija. So far, 299 earthly remains of the individuals from the list of the missing persons have been exhumed and handed over to the families, but even after eleven years, we still do not know the destiny of over 540 kidnapped Serbs. For the crimes against these people, none of the Albanian criminals has ever been arrested or sentenced.
